The Eternal Season - April 6th, 2015

After a long layoff we are back at TES on this, the first bridge day of 2015.

What is a bridge day?  Today it's the Opening Day for baseball, and tonight it's the final game for college hoops, as Wisconsin and Duke play for the NCAA title - 9:00 pm on CBS.  The bridge is what connects the winter sports to the Boys of Summer, which we regard as the start of The Eternal Season each year.  Of course being Eternal - the season never ends.

Yes, there are still winter sports going on - the NBA, which we don't really care about.  And the NHL - which we do care a lot about.  Last night, the Caps downed the Wings 2-1 in Detroit, and 90 minutes later, Toronto beat Ottawa in OT, and that clinched the playoff spot for our Caps.   With two games left, 2nd in the Metropolitan Division is in play.  But it looks like we may not know who the Caps will play in round 1 until this weekend.  Regardless, after missing the playoffs last year, we NYC Capitals fans are giddy to have our boys back in the hunt for Lord Stanley's Cup.  Now we just have to figure out a bar that will hold all of us for the playoff games...

Now back to baseball - our Dodgers opened up against the new-look Padres, and sure enough, Matt Kemp had all 3 San Diego RBIs.  With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the 8th, Jimmy Rollins blasted a 3 run home run, and that was the difference, as the Dodgers won it, 6-3.  Kershaw got the start but he did not get the win - but he did strike out 9 in 6 innings.  He will be fine.

And yes - we are going for the Badgers tonight.  If the Big Ten won BOTH the football and basketball national titles - that would be one big 'shut the blank up' to the other Power 5 conferences.  Go Bucky!

Also on our radar - next Wednesday night (the 15th) - the 'friendly', US Men's National Team v. Mexico.  It's from San Antonio, Texas.  Our side of the border.  It's at 8:30 pm eastern on Fox Sports 1.  Go USA!!!

The 15th is also the night the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin.  TES will return then, to break down the Caps chances and check in on the start of the MLB season.

Until then - Enjoy The Games!
