The Eternal Season - Friday September 9th

Good Afternoon TES Friends!

Friday afternoon!  We made it!  Bring on that weekend!

Weekend that has wall to wall football.  Well, not in the morning, unless you live way west.  But still, college tonight, all day tomorrow, then NFL all day Sunday and Monday night.  It has begun!

And what a start the NFL got last night, as the Packers held off the Saints 42-34 with a game not decided until the game was over.  My inner Yogi.  As you know but almost never see, a football game cannot end on a defensive penalty.  On what was the final play, the Pack was flagged for pass interference in the end zone.  So the Saints got one play from the 1 yard line.  After passing their way down the field with no time outs in under a minute, they tried to ram the ball home with Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram.  But the Green Bay defense shoved the New Orleans offensive line back, and Ingram was stopped for no gain, and the game ended. Again. An instant classic.  Well, unless you are a fan of defense.  That was the first time in NFL history an opening game had both QBs throwing for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.  I think most thought the non-offseason would give an early season advantage to defenses.  Maybe Sunday.  The games kick off at 1:00 on Fox and CBS, with the Cowboys-Jets game on NBC Sunday night.

The college boys give us a double header tonight.  At 7:00, Florida International visits Louisville, then at 10:30 the Paper Tigers visit Arizona State.  Both games are on ESPN.  Watch the later game, which will end about 2:00 am eastern, then get some quick shuteye before the noon kickoffs tomorrow.

The Eternal Season - Tuesday September 6th

Hello Again TES Friends!  The unofficial start to fall has arrived, and with it, low 60s and rain here in Gotham.  So glad it held out last night so we could wrap up the weekend at the US Open.

Last night and today, that is, as the long day session meant our night session didn't wrap up til about 1:20 am.  A great 4th round match between top seed Wozinoski and former champ Kuznetsova meant that Roger Federer didn't take to the court until just before midnight.  But, that match against a guy I had never seen play before (Monaco) was a classic beatdown - 2, 1, and 0.  Which is good, as we could not have made it to 5 sets!

And I hope you got your fill of the US Open over the past couple days, as there was a complete washout today, and the forecast for the next 48 hours isn't much better.  It's not clay or grass, let's play tennis in the rain!

Now that the initial weekend of college football has been completed, it's time to reset the calendar here at The Eternal Season.  It never ends, true, but a reset is in order.  Why now? Well, we love football, to be sure.  We enjoy the return of fall with the cooler weather and cooler clothes.  And the return of fall means that other sports we love are just over the horizon.  So while The Eternal Season goes on and on, the 2011-2012 segment has just begun.  Football, take it away!

The Eternal Season - Monday September 5th

Hello TES Friends!  I hope your holiday weekend has gone well!  Short week up this week!

Just a real quick note today, between birthday celebrations, football watching, and job hunting we have not been at the TES command center much the past few days.  We are off to the US Open tonight, where we will keep an eye on the Monday night football games.  That will be a wrap on the holiday weekend, and we'll be back tomorrow to discuss.

Here are your listings, looking for me up on the 300 level if you tune into the Open tonight!
