The steamy, energy zapping sauna that is. Another day at or above 100 here in Gotham. Making one kind of wish for a crisp fall Saturday with leaves changing all around. At noon today, we are 7 weeks away to the start of Iowa Football. So we lead with another Hawkeye freshman, a defensive end and fullback, John Raymon.

Good evening gang! Just a quick note via the mobile Blogger app, that we will return tomorrow. So hot here in the City, that even with the sun down, it's not cooling off. In fact, we just got a call from ConEd asking us to go easy on the grid tonight, and on a night like this, the AC wins over the TES control center. Your weekend has arrived! TES returns tomorrow, with another Hawkeye recruit video, and recaps of the opening action from the weekend. Have a good night!

The heat is on. Not just 90s here in Gotham, forecast has us pushing 100 today, tomorrow, and Saturday. At least there is a bit of a breeze at the moment!
It's Thursday, and we are still waiting on the NFL lockout voting to happen, seems they are close, but not everyone has had a chance to review the new CBA, and they don't want to vote on a 10 year deal without getting the particulars. Which makes perfect sense. But it could still happen today, and the various parties are where they need to be (or near a phone, for conference call voting), so breaking news could be coming our way at any moment. Thursday - college football, 7 weeks from tonight!
The Copa America final is now set - Uruguay v. Paraguay. Not the game the locals in Argentina were hoping for, if the fan attendance for the semi-finals is any indication. But it should be a decent game. 3:00 pm Sunday, on Univision en espanol, and most likely Fox Soccer if you like your broadcast in English, where the goal calls are nowhere near as exciting. The Peru v. Venezuela 3rd place game is 3:00 pm Saturday, same channels.

Woof - the dog days are here. Day 3 of 7, maybe 8 straight in the 90s. Good thing it's the slow season for sports, got to be careful running around out there!
You know it's slow when 7 of the 11 ESPN things in the Headlines box are baseball related. Then there is an NFL headline, something about Yao retiring, and the return of the USA soccer team to here in New York.
In baseball, the return to California didn't seem to wake up the Dodgers, who fell 5-0 to the Giants. Still waiting for any news regarding the ownership situation, and as of now, no player trades or dumping has happened. Elsewhere, pitching was in fine form again, as the Mets, Reds, and Brewers were all held to 3 hits in their losses. A full slate of games tonight, ranging from 7:05 to 10:15 eastern. Check your local listings.

And with it comes the potential for a week long heat wave of 90+ temps here in the Big Apple. But that seems to be the case over most of the country this week! A good time to stay indoors and watch some sports.
Which we did over the weekend here at TES, and boy were we let down yesterday.
By now, you have seen the highlights of the World Cup final. A game in which we should have had a 2-nil or 3-nil lead after the first 15 minutes. But we missed on some close shots, and shot when at times we should have passed, and didn't get those goals. Still, we had the lead in the 69th minute when Alex Morgan got behind the defense and ripped the ball into the back of the net. Only 20 minutes to kill, and it seemed we would do it, but then, a disaster of execution by our defense, right in front of the net, and the game was tied with 10 minutes left. We had some more chances to win it there, but were unable to get the shots on goal.
