The Eternal Season - Saturday July 16th

Good Afternoon TES Friends!

I hope your weekend is off to a good start!  Being the weekend, we lead with another one of our incoming Hawkeyes highlight videos - this week, Melvin Spears, #32, a linebacker out of Texas. Video courtesy of GoHawks TV.

It's Saturday!!! That means that at noon today, we were 7 weeks out from the start of Iowa Football. 49 days. And, today we have news that would indicate we won't have to wonder aimlessly around on Sundays with nothing to do.

The Eternal Season - Thursday July 14th

Good Morning!  Finally, the heat is gone, and it's a beautiful day here in New York!  Hope it is where you are too!

The top ranked US Women's soccer team is where they are meant to be now - in the World Cup final.  The French put up a very good fight in this one, it really wasn't until the USA put in the 2nd half subs that we began to wrest control away.  In fact, it wasn't until Abby again scored with a header in minute 79 that we regained the lead, and then put it away just three minutes later on a great run and shot by Alex Morgan.  The header goal came on a corner - where the French also forget to mark Abby - to their dismay.  Here are the highlights!

The Eternal Season - Wednesday July 13th

Good Morning TES Friends!  Hump Day!

And semifinals day over in Germany.  Straight up noon, the USA takes on France, and then at 2:45, Sweden and Japan battle.  Both games on ESPN and ESPN3.  Seems all the American gals have put Brazil behind them and are focused on the next task.  Quick turnaround to be sure, but France also had to play 120 minutes on Saturday.  One more day of rest, but we'll see who has the better fitness level.

The MLB All Stars (some of them) went to the desert, and once again the NL pitching suffocated the AL hitting, giving the Senior circuit the 5-1 win - and home field in the World Series.  The big blow was Fielder 'The Smaller' blasting a 3-run shot, just after the AL had taken the 1-0 lead.  The players now get another day off, as some teams head to the next series, while others also get the day off tomorrow - 7 games on Thursday, 15 on Friday.  The Dodgers begin the 2nd half right there in Phoenix, on Friday, with Kershaw on the mound - gunning for 5 straight, and hoping to make a run that no one sees coming.  Locally, the Mets have just sent K-Rod to the Brewers - the trading deadline is July 31 - prepare for the sell offs to begin.

The Eternal Season - Monday July 11th

Hello Again TES Friends!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and that the Monday we now find ourselves in treats you as well as it can.

What a sporting weekend it was for we here at TES.  Saturday noon marked a major milestone, as we were just 8 weeks out from the first Saturday of college football, and the start of Iowa Football 2011.  And so, a day or two late, but here none the less - another highlight video from an incoming Iowa freshman.  Running back Rodney Coe, out of Illinois, #21:

It might feel like the dead of summer (and it does), but college football will be here soon.

But it was the other kind of football that stole the show this weekend.  First, on Saturday, Japan stunned host and two time defending Cup champ Germany 1-nil.  That meant that the road to the title was wide open for the USA-Brazil winner.
