The Eternal Season - Wednesday September 28th

Good Evening TES Friends!

Wednesday evening, meaning the Hump has been crossed, and the weekend is now rounding into view!  Welcome to a special edition of TES on a Wednesday, as we are normally off tonight prepping the Hawkeye Football Game Notes.  But, no game this week, so no Notes to send out Thursday night.

And with no Notes to work on tonight, the focus can be on baseball, and what a night it is for the National Pastime.  After 161 games, the Wild Card in both the American and National leagues is yet to be determined.  In the Senior Circuit, the Braves and Cardinals are both 89-72 with tonight's games getting under way now.  Atlanta hosts Philly at 7:00 on ESPN2, while St. Louis visits Houston, at 8:00 pm - also on ESPN2, regional coverage.  In the Junior Circuit, it's the Red Sox and Rays battling for the final spot, both teams at 90-71.  Tampa hosts the Yankees, at 7:00 on YES, while the Red Sox finish up in Baltimore, that game starting now on ESPN.  For live look-ins of all games, tune to the MLB Network.

Tonight will put the regular season of baseball to bed, provided the teams are not still tied when the games end, in which case there will be the usual one game playoff tomorrow.  That's pretty exciting for the fans, but high stress on the players.

Football will be back with us tomorrow night, as South Florida visits suddenly .500 Pitt at 8:00 pm on ESPN.  No Iowa game this week, but a biggie in the Big Ten to be sure - #8 Nebraska opens their B1G era by entering Camp Randall and facing the 7th ranked Badgers, 8:00 pm on ABC.  We should have an early idea then if the Huskers are going to compete for the Big Ten West title - or not.

But more about the weekend as we get closer.  Tonight, not typing up Game Notes, but watching the Hawkeye game again and hand writing my notes with each play.  All while flipping around the channels to keep an eye on the baseball races, and pulling up the PIP if needed to catch both leagues.

So, enjoy your Wednesday evening, and a Happy New Year to my Jewish friends!  For everyone, the weekend is rapidly approaching!  Have a good night!
