Good Afternoon TES Friends!
All clear here in our part of Gotham, in the end it was just like a big rain storm with heavier than usual winds. Got a chance to walk around the neighborhood early this afternoon, some puddles at the corners, but that was about the only evidence that Irene had been here. Well, that and the stores that are closed today, that would not be normally.
Because this was the first 'hurricane' that TES has lived through, there wasn't much in the way of sports watching this weekend - basically flipping around the channels, watching the radar, watching pointless local news reporters, on location, pointing out that 'it's raining.' When we were at the computer, it was to work on week 1 of the 2011 Hawkeye Game Notes. 5 days, 19 hours, and counting.
Today you can find the Little League World Series title game on ABC and ESPN (right now), Japan v. California. Tonight at 8:00, Saints at Raiders on NBC. Tomorrow, one of our favorite local events kicks off, the US Open. Day sessions start at 11:00 am, and coverage is on Tennis Channel or ESPN2, depending on the time. Here is the broadcast schedule:
US Open Broadcast Schedule
We will be there next Monday evening for the 4th round, night sessions at the Open are always a blast! What a way to wrap up the first weekend of football. Wall to wall sports watching from Thursday night through Monday night!
The Dodgers have just kicked off play, in search of their 6th straight win, but even with that they will still be 10 back. But good to see signs of life, and Matt Kemp is still in the running for MVP if he can keep up the pace. Angels at Rangers is your ESPN game at 8:00 pm.
Soccer fans have 99 foreign league games to enjoy today, but the standout of them all was ManU's 8-2 throttling of Arsenal. Still very early in the season, but you have to wonder about a team's chances after getting embarrassed like that by a major rival.
I know that it is sad that Monday lurks, but remember that this is the Monday that begins the week that ends with football. And so it shall be, right into the new year. Almost time to start the next leg of The Eternal Season!

The love of sports is shared across the generations, and there are few things as fun as debating the merits of certain players, strategies, and team histories with other, opposing sports nuts. If you are an all around sports fan, feel free to join the ride, and please comment/vent whenever you feel you need to.
