The Eternal Season - Friday August 26th

Good Afternoon TES Friends!

All quiet on the eastern front at this point, but Irene rolls north, and the latest track has it running right across Gotham late Saturday through Sunday afternoon.  And so, our theme song for the next 48 hours is:

Why Bad Moon Rising?  Well, on Sunday, the lunar cycle resets, and the New Moon rises.  With a new moon, you get the highest tides of the month.  When does this happen in NYC?  Early morning - just as a Cat 1 hurricane is coming ashore.  Anywhere from 4 inches to a foot of rain, on top of the nearly 12 inches we have had this month already.  Plus the storm surge, and the high(er) tide.  A perfect combination. As we love CCR, how bout another timely song:

The impending arrival of the storm has already caused major shifting of the weekend sports schedule, here an ESPN link detailing what has been moved so far:

Sporting Events Impacted By Irene

In actual sporting news - alas, not on the field, but major none the less.  Both LSU and Miami are looking at several suspended players to open the season - for Miami, for the booster mess, LSU, players involved in a bar fight last weekend.  In both cases, we are talking starters.  Not what fans want to see 8 days before the season starts.

Make that 6 days, if you are really counting - next Thursday night.  Today, the Hawkeyes have released their two-deep for week 1, so now we can really start to focus on the game plans and potential as the new season gets under way.  This, the last weekend without real football for the next 4+ months! And yes, in the week 1 game notes, I will detail how to watch the most possible football next weekend.

More preseason football tonight to help whet the appetite, Pack at Colts at 8:00 on CBS, where Kerry Collins will be under QB for Indianapolis.  Yes, the guy that retired in the spring.  Also, the Missouri showdown, Rams at Chiefs at 8:00, but local coverage only.  Most of the other teams are playing this weekend, check the link below for times and tv details.

You will not find the opening of the Italian Serie A league on tv this weekend, as they went on strike yesterday.  Last collective bargaining agreement expired, blah blah blah.  But this one probably won't last more than a week or two.  So get your soccer fix everywhere else.

TES will be back at some point this weekend, as our control center is right next to a window that normally gets a good breeze, we might have to step away during the height of the storm.  Stay safe out there yourself, we don't want anyone getting hurt just as the best sporting season of the year is about to begin!

The love of sports is shared across the generations, and there are few things as fun as debating the merits of certain players, strategies, and team histories with other, opposing sports nuts.
