Good Afternoon TES Friends!
Lunch hour is now in the rear view mirror, the week is past the 50% mark, thoughts of weekends can now come into view. It will come.
Continuing chaos on the NFL front, but at the moment the spotlight is in Cleveland, where Angels pitcher Ervin Santana has just no-hit the Indians in the 3-1 win. That's right, the Indians had no hits, but got a run on an error, steal, sacrifice, and wild pitch in the 1st inning. An unearned run, and no hits. These things have kind of come in waves of late, we'll see what happens tonight!
But back to football, where more signings and now trades are making headlines today. McNabb to the Vikings, Kolb to the Cards (not done yet), Hasselbeck to the Titans, and, Tavaris Jackson to Seattle (along with Matt Lienart). Seahawks fans, less than thrilled.
But in Baltimore, it was a good day for a former Hawkeye, offensive lineman Marshal Yanda, who saw the Ravens cut 4 notable veterans so the team could free up cap space to give him a 5 year, $32 million deal. Got to protect that quarterback, and at that, Marshal excels. Also word today that Bob Sanders is not quite ready to hang it up, he has signed a one year deal with the Chargers. And Casey Wiegmann, age 38, has decided to give it one more go, as he signed a one year extension with the Chiefs.
Also word late last night that Adrian Clayborn has become the first player of the 32 1st round NFL Draft picks to come to terms with his team - the Bucs. No surprise there, I am sure Adrian is anxious to get on the field and get things started.
The Dodgers did get the 4th straight winlast night, and with the sweep of the Rockies tonight, will be in 3rd place, perhaps 11 back in the West. Still could get to 8 or 9 back by the end of the month, and from there, they are not quite dead yet. Real interesting finish in the 19th inning of the Pirates/Braves game last night (near 2:00 in the morning) as the Braves won on what appeared to be a blown call at the plate. Here is the video -
Calls already for an increase on replay usage, but I doubt we will see anything in the short term.
Tonight we finally get to the ManU v. MLS All Stars game, 8:30 on ESPN2. Yup, only had to walk to the corner bodega today to see a ManU jersey. That should be a fun game to watch if you are a soccer fan.
Wednesday will be over soon enough - enjoy the rest of your day and evening, we will back tomorrow as we pass another milestone on the countdown clocks!
