The Eternal Season - Wednesday June 8th

Good Morning, and welcome back to TES!

So, it's hot.  Not even summer - yet. Summer, close, about 13 days.  Wondering if I can find some Flavor Ice around here...

And yet, the winter sports athletes show no sign of hitting the golf course by this weekend.

Nope, the Heat had the Mavs on the ropes AGAIN, and Dirk was hacking and wheezing with flu-ish symptoms and a temp of 101, but no matter - Dallas rallied again, outscoring Miami 21-9 over the last 10 minutes to win it 86-83 and knot the series at 2 all.  The media was quick to liken this to Jordan's 1997 flu game (103 temp), but his Airness went for 38 - Dirk, 21.  What's left, a best out of 3.  Game 5, Thursday night in Dallas, 9:00 eastern, ABC.

We will learn tonight if the Stanley Cup Final will be close to ending or have new life, as game 4 has the Canucks in Boston.  We knew that the injured Bruin Horton was out for the rest of the games, and now we know that the guy that hit him, Rome, is done too.  Suspended by the NHL for the balance of the series.  That, along with a couple other dinged up defensemen could definitely be a concern for Vancouver - Luongo tends to get a bit leaky when things break down in front of him.  If the B's can score early tonight, we could be looking at another stomping to tie up the series.  It all starts at 8:00, on Versus.

The Dodgers threw out some young guys last night, and the result a 6-2 win over Philly.  Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa made his first start and got through 5 with only 1 run, while shortstop Dee Gordon made his first start, and had 3 hits.  Kemp homered again, giving him 17, he's hitting .320.  Dodger batters face Hamels tonight, another tough battle. but perhaps they can steal this series.  Locally the Red Sox downed the Yankees 6-4, meaning the Sox are in a dead heat with NY for the AL East lead.  To certain area newspapers, this would be the point where the world ends.

I know, I know, there was big news in the college football world, and something I didn't see coming.  At least, until the news started breaking about the various car 'sales', and now, news of players trading signatures for cash (a NCAA no no).  I guess he saw the writing on the wall and decided to bail out now, so Pryor is forgoing his senior season at Ohio State and will either enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, the CFL, or other.  Buckeyes lucky to miss the Hawkeyes in 2011.  That's right, I just typed it.

News today that there was another secret NFL-Players meeting, on Tuesday, here in New York.   As it was a secret, we have yet to learn if any progress was made.  Meanwhile, it's June 8th.

Canada was hoping for a little payback for a disallowed goal in the 2007 Gold Cup loss to the USA, but the boys in red white and blue were not accommodating, and cruised to a 2-nil win to open the 2011 Gold Cup.  Down in Brazil, Ronaldo made his final appearance with the national team, retiring after 18 seasons with it, and with his current record of 15 World Cup goals still intact.  The MLS should try to get him into the front office.

No Tiger in the US Open, still feeling the effects of various injuries.  Ratings, plunging.

Just after 11:00 am in the east, and already giving 90 a run for its money.  Hoping you can find some Flavor Ice for yourself, as your weekend starts to come into view this afternoon.  Have a great day!
