The Eternal Season - Sunday June 12

Good Afternoon TES Friends, I hope your Sunday Funday is off to a good start!

Saturday was a bit quieter on the sporting front, with both the NHL and NBA on off days. so you had to get your fix through baseball, soccer, or horse racing.  That's ok, because if you are a real sports fan, you can always find something to occupy a bit of your time.

The NBA Finals return tonight, with Dallas 48 minutes away from claiming their first championship.  Seems things might be getting a bit chippy, with Wade and LeBron apparently mocking Dirk's illness the other day.  We will be witness tonight to the alleged lameness of the Miami fan base - you would think if they can be vocal and enthused, this would be the night to do it.  Otherwise they'll have to go back to being non-attending Marlins fans. 8:00 pm eastern (one hour earlier than the other starts) on ABC.

In the NHL,  the Canucks are 60 minutes from claiming their first Stanley Cup after the thrilling 1-0 win on Friday night.  Luongo certainly answered the questions, and Boston's Thomas was victimized by either a bad shot or great play, depending on your perspective.  A very entertaining game, and one worthy of a classic hockey score like 1 zip.  Game 6 is Monday night, in Boston, 8:00 eastern, on NBC.  Canucks probably thinking if the Bruins score first in this one, that it's going to take 7 to see it done.  We can only hope.

The Dodgers pounded out a season high 18 hits in their 11-7 win over the Rockies, they will go for the split of the series this afternoon, and get to take their hacks against a struggling Jimenez.  Everybody is in action today, with all of them under the sun, other than the Sunday Night Reds/Giants game.

There is news today of an issue concerning all of baseball, and that is realignment. There is the possibility of scrapping the divisions and just going with two 15 team leagues.  This does seem kind of back burner for the moment, but an interesting thought none the less.

The expected showdown never happened at Belmont, probably having much to do with the horses running in mud.  Animal Kingdom and Shackleford didn't even make the podium.  It was won by another long shot, at 24-1, 'Ruler On Ice.'  Secretariat's record still safe, the winning time 2:30:88.  The wait for the Crown goes on, since 1979.

The US Soccer team fell to Panama 2-1 in the group stage of the Gold Cup last night.  Panama, a team that had never topped the USA.  Soccer talking heads seem to think we have hit rock bottom, but we have one more game in group play that we should win (Guadeloupe), and that would advance us into the next round.

Nothing new concerning the NFL over the past 48, and most of the college football news is still over things not on the field, like Tennessee going before the NCAA and begging mercy.  But, actual football news does draw ever closer.

Hope your day isn't too full of things that you have to do, and has room for some things you want to do. Monday lurks; don't let it arrive early.
