The Eternal Season - Saturday June 25th

Good Afternoon Friends!

It seems the drugs have finally been able to get a bit of control over my head, so I can have the Kleenex box more than 18 inches away from me as I type today.  Hoping the start of your weekend has been going well!

As it's Saturday, we lead with another installment of 2011 Hawkeye Football freshmen.  This week, defensive back/tailback Torrey Campbell, #21, out of Naples Florida.  This clip comes to us from GoHawks Tv.

It's hard to get football off the mind these days, as we are now getting verbal commits from 2012 Hawkeye freshmen.  Assuming they hold up and do sign come February,  we'll be seeing their highlight videos next summer.

On the diamond, the Dodgers couldn't stand the prosperity of a 2-0 lead after the first, and fell 8-3.   Kuroda goes tonight - he has been pitching well of late, but with almost nothing in run support.  Hoping the day baseball in Chavez Ravine will allow the Bums to swing the bats this time.  All in all a good night in inter-league play, where there were a few cases of pitching dominance - perhaps another no-hitter this weekend?

Lots of action on the grass across the Pond today, and there, Nadal and Federer have both moved on with ease - continuing on the march to a possible final showdown.  Serena and Venus are both still alive on the ladies bracket - it's all looking like a great second week ahead for tennis fans.

They are still talking in the NFL, with another meeting on the books for next week, and in the NBA, they had a meeting yesterday, and it seems to have been pointless.  The lockout is 5 days away.

We already discussed hockey returning to Winnipeg, and now we know what the name will be called - drumroll - the Jets!  Yes, you can go home again.  Apparently they sold out their entire season ticket allotment in less than 10 minutes.

In the golf world, they are up in Connecticut for the Travelers, and the story there is all about 19 year old amateur Patrick Cantlay.  Fresh off the low amateur title at the US Open (even, an excellent score), he is leading after round two this week, after he shot a 60 yesterday afternoon.  He is about to go off on round three with a 1 shot lead, we shall see if his nerves can hold up.  Perhaps another contender in the chase to be Next.

I hope that your schedule allows you to get outside, toss around a ball,  hit your local links - maybe a walk in the park.  If the weather doesn't allow you to go outside, check out the links below for some sporting action on the tv.  It's your weekend - make sure to do something you want to do!
